CircAfrique----A Traditional African Music Ensemble
CircAfrique----A Traditional African Music Ensemble

On November 20th, the 2nd grade students were delighted to attend a musical performance put on by the CircAfrique band members. The group presented our students with numerous instruments from 6 different countries from Africa. One of the student's favorite instruments was the Djembe (a hand drum) from West Africa. Did you know that the head of the drum is covered in skin from an animal like a goat or a cow? One of the most interesting songs that CircAfrique played was called "Kuku." It is a celebration song from West Africa that is performed as the village fishermen return home. This band was able to incorporate their musical skills with a story from our Journeys Reading textbook called Violet's Music. Just like the Violet these friends come together to play music and enjoy spending time together. Many thanks to the CircAfrique band for presenting to us!
