The Tippecanoe School Corporation has announced Aaron Gilman will serve as the district’s first Safety and Security Manager. Gilman is a 26-year veteran of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department, including nine years as a TSC school resource officer. He was recently named Officer of the Year by the Indiana School Resource Officers Association.

As Safety and Security Manager, Gilman will oversee the district's school resource officers and coordinate all campus safety initiatives and emergency preparedness programs.

“Adding this position is an important step in our commitment to provide a safe, secure environment for all of our students, staff and families,” says TSC Superintendent Dr. Scott Hanback. “Aaron brings a wealth of law enforcement and school safety experience to the position, as well as a passion for working with students and schools.”

Gilman has a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University and is an accredited master level school resource officer through the Indiana School Resource Officer Association. He says the relationships that he has built over the last several years will help him in his new role. “It will offer me the opportunity to focus more on school safety and implement positive change within the TSC policies and procedures as it relates to day-to-day operations and emergency response,” says Gilman. “I will also be more instrumental in providing emergency response training for staff and continuing to improve campus safety measures.”

Gilman hopes to be proactive in addressing underlying issues and seek out new programs that address student concerns: “I also plan to host informational sessions with parents to address a variety of topics including the negative impact of social media and its effects on our school climate.”

Gilman’s appointment took effect July 1.
