Amid all the end-of-year school celebrations, students at Wea Ridge Elementary School are taking in some healthy activities and lessons. They are filling new water bottles provided by Monsanto at a water refill station installed recently thanks to donation from Lafayette Daybreak Rotary.
"The water bottle refill station has been a great addition to our building," says physical education teacher Patrick Schultheiss." Staff and students are able to refill their bottles more frequently throughout the day. I've also heard some teachers say the fountain has help them change their drinking habits -- from one or two sodas a day to two to three bottles of water a day." The water bottles and refill station will also help cut down on the use of plastic water bottles.
The donation ties in nicely to INtegrate, a state-wide wellness initiative adopted by the TSC. The program encourages employees and students to make healthier choices like drinking more water and being more active.
During field day, students rotated through various stations from racing through an inflatable obstacle course to shooting hoops. Others joined a game of tug of war, while others jumped hurdles.
The last student day is Tuesday, May 29.
